Foreign Minister Ms. KAMIKAWA is visiting the Colombo Dockyard with guidance

On May 4, commencing at 6 p.m. (local time; 9:30 p.m. JST) for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, visited the Colombo Port with which Japan is cooperating, and Colombo Dockyard.

  1. First, overlooking the entire port from the control tower of the port, Mr. Malavige, Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Port Authority, explained the significance of the port in the logistics of the Indian Ocean region and the facilities constructed with Japanese assistance.
  2. The group then visited the Colombo Dockyard of a Japanese shipbuilding company, where Mr. Godakumbura, President, and Mr. Furukawa, Director, gave an overview of the company and the challenges it faces, and inspected the dock.
  3. Foreign Minister Kamikawa actively asked questions about the capacity to be increased by the port under construction, the completion date, the dockyard's business situation, and the nationalities of the companies with which they do business.
