On January 16, commencing at 11:20 a.m. local time (14:50 p.m. Japan Time) for approximately 50 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during his visit to Delhi, India, made a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister Motegi stated that Japan and India are "natural partners", sharing fundamental values and strategic interests, and that under the robust bilateral relationship, Japan intends to cooperate toward realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” (FOIP). Prime Minister Modi welcomed Minister Motegi's visit to India and stated that India desires to deepen cooperation based on the "Japan-India Special Strategic Global Partnership."
  2. Bearing in mind the "Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Decade" launched during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Japan last August, they had a candid exchange of views on a wide range of areas, such as security, including economic security, economy, investment and innovation, including AI, and people-to-people exchanges, and concurred to elevate Japan-India relations to new heights.
  3. Both sides concurred to further vitalize bilateral exchanges on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India in 2027.
