On August 19, commencing at 7:50 p.m. local time (same day, 11:20 p.m. JST) for approximately 90 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during her visit to New Delhi, India to attend the Third JapanIndia Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting, held a dinner with representatives of Japanese companies in India. The overview is as follows.

  1. Minister Kamikawa stated her view that the current friendly relations between Japan and India are the result of the efforts of Japanese companies and Japanese residents in India, and expressed her sincere respect for their efforts.
  2. Minister Kamikawa stated the importance of incorporating India’s high growth into the growth of Japan. She stated that Japan will further proactively support economic activities in India by Japanese companies to this end. She stated that several diplomatic missions, including the Embassy of Japan in India, have successively appointed officials in charge of crossborder economic affairs to assist Japanese companies in expanding their operations to third-country markets.
  3. Minister Kamikawa held an exchange of views on a wide range of issues, such as the importance of developing human resources with a broad perspective in promoting manufacturing in India, as well as the business environment and challenges facing India. She affirmed that she would like to work with the representatives of Japanese companies in attendance to further develop economic relations between the two countries through public-private cooperation.
