Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA’s Luncheon Meeting with Japanese women in India

On August 20, commencing at 0:00 p.m. local time (3:30 a.m. JST) for approximately 90 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, during her visit to Delhi, India to attend the third Japan-India 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministerial Meeting, held a luncheon meeting with Japanese women in India. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Minister Kamikawa stated that she was pleased to exchange views with Japanese women in India. She stated that as the first Japanese female Foreign Minister in about 20 years, she is strongly promoting Women, Peace and Security (WPS) as part of Japan’s major foreign policy initiatives. She also stated that she would like to hear insights from the participants to further promote women’s empowerment and gender equality in Japan, as well as to further strengthen Japan-India relations.
- In response, the participants provided detailed explanations of their experiences in India and expressed thought-provoking opinions on measures to develop Japan-India relations as well as further the prosperity of Japanese society, including the importance of development of Japanese language education in India and university education with an eye to employment.
- Minister Kamikawa stated that she wished to cooperate with the participants to further develop Japan-India relations.
