On May 26, commencing at 4:15 p.m. local time (7:45 p.m. Japan time) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during his visit to India to attend the Japan-Australia-India-U.S. (Quad) Foreign Ministers’ meeting, made a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Modi welcomed Minister MOTEGI’s visit to India, following his previous visit in January this year and stated that bilateral relations are making further strides based on the “Japan-India Special Strategic and Global Partnership”.
  2. In response, Minister MOTEGI stated that, based on the “Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Decade” launched during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Japan last year, Japan and India have been advancing various initiatives in the fields of security, economy, investment and innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. The two sides concurred to work together to realize a resilient and prosperous Indo-Pacific under the updated Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).
  3. The two sides confirmed that Japan and India would work together, particularly to promote economic growth through investment, innovation, and the circulation of talent, as well as to achieve concrete outcomes in the field of economic security cooperation.
