On August 20, commencing at 2:00 p.m. local time (5:30 p.m. JST) for approximately 60 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, during her visit to Delhi, India to attend the third Japan-India 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministerial Meeting, visited the Delhi Metro. Japan provided loans and assisted in the construction of the Delhi Metro, applying methods used in public infrastructure in Japan such as women-only cars and braille blocks.

Minister Kamikawa received an explanation from Mr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, on how Japanese technologies and methods are used in the Delhi Metro, after which she took a test ride. Minister Kamikawa stated that she was pleased that Japan was able to contribute to the development of comfortable transportation infrastructure in Delhi, and that this is one of the symbolic projects of Japan-India cooperation.
