Japan-Timor-Leste Prime Ministers’ Informal Talks

On September 6, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting Indonesia to attend the ASEAN-related Summit Meetings, held informal talks with H.E. Mr. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste after the ASEAN Plus Three Summit Meeting. The overview of the talks is as follows.
- Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan would continue to support Timor-Leste’s efforts to join ASEAN, and he asked for understanding and cooperation regarding the discharge of ALPS treated water into the sea.
- In response, Prime Minister Gusmão expressed his deep gratitude for Japan’s support to date, and stated that he would like to continue to work closely with Japan.
