Japan-Singapore Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On July 11, commencing at 8:55 a.m. (9:55 a.m. on July 11, JST) for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Malaysia to attend the ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers' Meeting, held a Japan-Singapore Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with H.E. Dr. Vivian BALAKRISHNAN, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore. The overview is as follows.
- Minister Iwaya stated that he was encouraged by the reappointment of Minister for Foreign Affairs Balakrishnan, who has made significant contributions to the development of bilateral relations. Minister Iwaya also expressed his intention to further strengthen cooperation with Singapore, the ASEAN Country Coordinator for Japan, not only in bilateral relations but also in Japan-ASEAN cooperation as well as in regional and global challenges.
- In response, Minister Balakrishnan stated that Japan is a long-standing friend and a strong, generous partner, and that he is pleased with the continued high-level discussions between the two countries in recent times.
- The two Ministers exchanged views on various regional and international issues and confirmed that they will promote cooperation in a wide range of areas such as digital, green and security, with a view to the 60th anniversary of Japan-Singapore diplomatic relations in 2026.
- The two Ministers noted the increasingly close people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and welcomed the success of the Singapore Pavilion at the Osaka-Kansai Expo.
