Meeting between Chief Cabinet Secretary HAYASHI Yoshimasa and H.E. Mr. GAN Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry of the Republic of Singapore

On May 28, commencing at 4:25 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Chief Cabinet Secretary HAYASHI Yoshimasa held a meeting with H.E. Mr. GAN Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry of the Republic of Singapore. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi conveyed his congratulations on the victory of the general election and stated that he would like to continue to work together to further develop friendly relations. In response, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry Gan expressed his gratitude and stated his desire to elevate the bilateral relationship to a higher level.
- The two sides confirmed that they will strengthen cooperation in areas, which will shape the future of both countries, such as digital, green, and startups, and deepen relations, with a view to the 60th anniversary of Japan-Singapore diplomatic relations in 2026.
- The two sides exchanged views on regional and international situation and concurred to continue close coordination. The two sides also discussed the impact of the U.S. tariff measures on the global economy and the multilateral free trade system. In addition, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi asked for Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry Gan’s continued understanding and cooperation for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue.
