On October 8, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting Singapore, held a meeting with Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies of the Republic of Singapore, followed by other activities. The overview of the events is as follows.

  1. Minister Hayashi and Senior Minister Tharman, both pleased to have met again to renew their old acquaintanceships, had a candid exchange of views on a wide range of areas, including the Japan-Singapore economic relations and international economic situations.
  2. In addition, Minister Hayashi visited the Japanese cemetery park and laid flowers. Furthermore, he held a conversation with experts on regional and international affairs, which was attended by Ms. Chan Heng Chee, Ambassador-at-large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as Mr. Bilahari Kausikan, Chairman of the Middle East Institute, the National University of Singapore, and others. Minister Hayashi and the experts had a candid and wide-ranging discussion over bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues.
  3. In the evening, Minister Hayashi is scheduled to meet with a group of Japanese companies in Singapore and exchange views regarding the Japan–Singapore economic relations and local business environment.
