Dinner Meeting with Philippine economic affairs ministers

On January 14th, during his visit to the Philippines, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, had dinner with Philippine economic affairs ministers and exchanged a wide range of views on Japan-Philippines economic relations. The overview is as follows.
- The Philippine side includes Hon. Frederick D. Go, Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs and Hon. Manuel Bonoan, Secretary of Public Works and Highways.
- Minister IWAYA stated that Japan and the Philippines are strategic partners, neighboring across the ocean, and that in addition to bilateral cooperation, multilayered cooperation among the Japan-U.S.-Philippines trilateral cooperation has dramatically progressed in recent years amid an increasingly severe regional strategic environment. He also expressed his desire to further develop the already solid long-standing economic relationship. Philippine economic affairs ministers expressed their welcome to the Philippines on his first overseas trip of the new year.
- Minister IWAYA and Philippine economic affairs ministers exchanged views regarding cooperation on infrastructure resiliency, economic security, trade and investment, and economic and social development, and concurred to strengthen bilateral and trilateral cooperation in each area.
