Hashi o Kakeru (Building Bridges), a publication by Suemori Books (1998). The text is based on Empress Michiko’s speech in English entitled “Reminiscences of Childhood Readings,” delivered via video to the 26th Congress of IBBY in New
Delhi, India. The book contains both the original English version and the Japanese version broadcast in Japan for the Japanese audience. It has been translated into many languages. A pocket-size hardcover edition containing just the Japanese version was published by Bungeishunju Ltd. in 2009.
From Basel to those who bring books and children together, a publication by Suemori Books (2003). The text is based on Empress Michiko’s speech in English delivered at the 28th Congress of IBBY in Basel, Switzerland, commemorating its Golden Jubilee. The book contains both the English and the Japanese versions. It has been translated into many languages.
Seoto, a collection of 367 waka poems by Empress Michiko, published by Daito Publishing Co., Inc. (1997). A selection of 53 poems from the collection were translated into French by Tadao Takemoto and published as Se-oto: Le chant du gue, by Editions Signatura in 2006.
Hajimete no Yamanobori (My First Mountain), a children’s book written by Empress Michiko and illustrated by Wako Takeda. Published by Shikosha (1991). Translated into many languages.
Dobutsu-tachi (The Animals), Fushigina Poketto (The Magic Pocket), and Niji (Rainbow) , three books which contain the 60 poems of Michio Mado translated by Empress Michiko. The two former books published in Japan by Suemori Books and in the United States by Margaret K. McElderry Books (1992), the two latter books published in Japan by Bungeishunju Ltd. (2013).
