Courtesy Call on Prime Minister TAKAICHI by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia

On November 18, commencing at 11:00 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Sugiono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, and H.E. Gen. (Hon.) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia. The overview the courtesy call is as follows:
- At the outset, Prime Minister TAKAICHI welcomed the visit of Minister Sugiono and Minister Sjafrie and stated that the third Japan-Indonesia Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting ("2+2") was extremely timely as the security environment is becoming increasingly severe. Prime Minister TAKAICHI emphasized that strengthening Japan’s relations with Indonesia is truly important in promoting the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) as well as maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law. Prime Minister TAKAICHI also expressed her desire to advance cooperation in a wide range of fields, including security and defense cooperation.
- In response, Minister Sugiono and Minister Sjafrie stated that they had meaningful discussions at the “2+2” and that close collaboration with Japan was important for Indonesia and they desired to advance the bilateral cooperation in concrete manners. Both sides agreed to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, following the Indonesian Ministers' visit to Japan this time.
