Japan-Indonesia Relations

On October 28, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with His Excellency Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, for about 20 minutes from 7:15 p.m. The overview of the talk is as follows:

  1. Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan appreciated Indonesia’s efforts towards a successful G20 Bali summit and would continue to work together with President Joko Widodo as the chair of G20. In response, President Joko Widodo expressed his gratitude. The two leaders confirmed that they would continue to closely cooperate with each other.
  2. The two leaders also exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine. Prime Minister Kishida emphasized that Russia’s threat of nuclear weapons, let alone use of them should never be tolerated, and that the very fact that no nuclear weapon has been used for the past 77 years since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki must not be changed. The two leaders concurred to continue to collaborate including on this matter towards the G20 Bali summit.
