Letter of Condolence by Prime Minister Kishida and Foreign Minister Kamikawa, following the passing of H.E. Dr. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam

  1. On July 19, Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio sent a letter of condolence to H.E. Mr. Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, following the passing of H.E. Dr. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, on the same day.
    In the letter, Prime Minister Kishida noted that he was surprised and saddened to hear the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and, on behalf of the Government and people of Japan, expressed his deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and to the bereaved family. Prime Minister Kishida also expressed his sincere respect for General Secretary Trong’s significant contributions to Japan-Vietnam relations, noting that General Secretary Trong had demonstrated great leadership in building close cooperation between Japan and Vietnam as comprehensive strategic partners in a wide range of fields.
  2. On the same day, Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko also sent a letter of condolence to H.E. Mr. Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
    In the letter, Foreign Minister Kamikawa noted that she pays tribute to General Secretary Trong in memory of his great achievements and prays for the repose of his soul. She also expressed her wish that the Government and people of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam would overcome their grief as soon as possible and that Viet Nam would achieve further development. Foreign Minister Kamikawa expressed her respect for General Secretary Trong’s close relationships with a number of Japanese VIPs and for his significant contributions to promoting friendly relationship between the two countries.
