Japan-Viet Nam Relations

On July 13, commencing at 2:25 p.m. for 20 minutes, Mr. KIHARA Minoru, Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Dr. Phan Van Giang, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Viet Nam.

  1. At the outset, Chief Cabinet Secretary KIHARA welcomed the visit to Japan, and stated that Japan and Viet Nam would work together to further strengthen their “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” and to realize the updated “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” (FOIP).
  2. In response, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Giang welcomed the close exchanges between Japan and Viet Nam, beginning with the visit by Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, to Viet Nam in May, and expressed his intention to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation, including in the security sector.
  3. The two sides confirmed coordination on key international and regional issues, including the situations in the Middle East, the situations in the East and South China Seas, North Korea, including the response to the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, and the situation in Myanmar.
