On May 30, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. SHIMADA Tomoaki attended the opening ceremony of “Vietnam Festival 2026” held at Yoyogi Park and delivered a speech on behalf of the Japanese government.
The opening ceremony was also attended by many individuals, including Ms. OBUCHI Yuko , Member of the House of Representatives (Chairperson of both the Executive Committee for the festival and the Japan-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Association); H.E. Mr. Pham Quang Hieu, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan; and Mr. AOYAGI Yoichiro, former Member of the House of Representatives (Co-Chair of the Executive Committee for the festival).

In his address, Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA noted the progress of cooperation between Japan and Vietnam across a wide range of fields, including politics, economy, and people-to-people exchanges, while referring to Prime Minister TAKAICHI's visit to Vietnam in May this year. He also expressed his hope that the festival will further deepen mutual understanding between the people of the two nations.
  2. The festival attracted many visitors, featuring traditional Vietnamese water puppet shows and performances by Vietnamese artists, as well as a variety of booths offering Vietnamese cuisine, goods, exhibits, and cultural exchange opportunities.
