Japan-Thailand Relations

The year 2027 marks the 140th Anniversary of the establishment of Japan-Thailand diplomatic relations. A series of events are being planned to commemorate this milestone and to deepen the existing close and cordial relations between the two countries. We are inviting submissions for logo designs to be used in related commemorative events. The details of the competition are as follows:

1. Application Details

Design a logo to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the establishment of Japan-Thailand diplomatic relations.

2. Prize

3. Submission Guidelines

(1) Eligibility Requirements

  • The applicant must be an individual who has a Japanese or Thai nationality.
  • Staff from both countries’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including those attached to their diplomatic missions in either country, as well as their immediate family members, are not eligible.

(2) Timeline

  • Application period: 15 May - 15 July 2026
  • Voting period for the shortlisted designs: 15 - 31 August 2026
  • Announcement of results: by 7 September 2026

(3) Selection Method

The submitted designs will be shortlisted by the Shortlisting Committee before being opened for public voting. The entry that receives the most votes will be declared the winner. The voting platform will be announced in due course.

(4) Announcement of Results

Shortlisted designs and the result of the public vote will be announced on the website of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Thailand, and that of the Embassy of Japan in Thailand and the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo.

(5) Submission Method

  1. Each applicant can submit only one design.
  2. Digital design must be:
    1. no larger than 3MB.
    2. 1,500 x 1,500 pixel or above.
    3. 300 dpi resolution or above.
    4. in JPEG or PNG format.
    5. the whole logo must fit within one horizontal A4 size format.
      Note: The submitted design may be requested to be converted to another format.
  3. A brief explanation, approximately 100 words in either Japanese, Thai or English, about the concept of the submitted design must be included in the application form (Word).
    Note: The explanation of the winning design will be publicised.
  4. Each logo design must be submitted in both full color (no limitation on colour variation and gradation) and black and white versions.
  5. Submitted designs and related documents will not be returned to the applicant.
  6. Entries must be submitted by email. Submissions via post will not be accepted.

(6) Email Address

  1. The logo shall be submitted to japan-thailand140th@mofa.go.jp by 15 July 2026.
  2. Email subject must be “Entry to JT140 Logo Competition”.

4. Important Notes (Copyright and related information)

  1. The submitted logo design must be a brand-new design and has never been used before either in Japan, Thailand or abroad. This logo design must not violate copyrights, trademark rights, or infringe upon other rights of any third parties.
  2. In the event that any works are found to infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party and the provisions of public order and standards of decency stipulated in the laws and regulations, contain defamatory contents, or have other inappropriate natures, the entry shall be rejected even after it is selected as the winning design. If the submitted design is found to resemble an existing artwork, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Thailand reserve the right to reject it even after it is selected as the winning design. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Thailand shall assume no responsibility for any inconvenience and damage that may arise as a result of these cases.
  3. Any falsification made in the entry will render it disqualified even after the submitted design is selected as the winning design. In this case, the entry receiving the second-highest number of votes shall be declared the winner.
  4. The selected design may be subject to instructions for modifications as the final design after they are completed. If the design or the applicant is unable to fulfil such requirements, or is unable to agree with the suggested modifications, the entry will be disqualified even after it is being selected as the winning design.
  5. Every logo design submitted for entry in the competition will be considered to be the exclusive property of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Thailand. All copyrights pertaining to the submitted design will belong to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Thailand (including rights of translation, adaptation, etc. stipulated in the Article 27 and right of the original author in the exploitation of a derivative work stipulated in the Article 28 of the Copyright Law of Japan). In addition, the entrant of the selected design shall not exercise moral rights of an author, and all other rights pertaining to the selected design shall belong to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Thailand.
  6. Authorised usage of the completed design shall be given by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Thailand (including the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, the Consulate-General of Japan in Chiang Mai, the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, the Royal Thai Consulates-General in Osaka and Fukuoka,).
  7. Detailed information of the applicants will not be disclosed to a third party. Only the applicants’ names and affiliated organisations (if there is any) will be released to the public.
  8. Receipt of submissions or notification to unsuccessful applicants will not necessarily be conveyed or sent out to reply. Please note that we are unable to respond to any inquiries regarding the selection process.
