Japan-Thailand Relations

On November 13 (on November 14, Japan time), Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting the Republic of Peru to participate in APEC Ministerial Meetings, had an informal talk for approximately 15 minutes with H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. The overview of the talk is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Maris congratulated Minister Iwaya on his appointment as Foreign Minister, to which Minister Iwaya expressed his gratitude.
  2. The two ministers noted that Japan and Thailand have a long-standing friendly relationship, including ties between the Thai Royal Family and the Japanese Imperial Family. They agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation and cooperation in the international arena and to hold the “Japan-Thailand High-Level Joint Commission” in Tokyo at an early date.
  3. In addition, the two ministers exchanged views on regional and international affairs, including the situation in Myanmar and Mekong cooperation, and agreed to continue to work closely together.
