Japan-Myanmar Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On Sunday, July 24, commencing at shortly after 7 p.m. (local time) for several minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, who is visiting the Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR) to attend ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers' Meetings, met with H.E. Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Minister Kishida stated that he was pleased to meet State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi again after meeting her in May. He stated that the Foreign Ministers' meeting in May was meaningful, and Japan would like to provide support in various areas, such as rural development and the development of Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) based on the result of that meeting. Minister Kishida also conveyed his hope that State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi would visit Japan again in the near future.
- State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi replied that she certainly hoped to visit Japan again and that she remembered there were carps (in the pond at Iikura Guest House) from her visit the last time.
