Japan-Laos Foreign Ministers’ Informal Talk

On July 10, local time (same day Japan time), Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Malaysia to attend ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers’ meetings, held an informal talk with H.E. Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. The overview is as follows.
- Minister Thongsavanh stated that he was pleased that exchanges between the two countries have been active this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Laos. He also stated that he looked forward to the visit of Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko to Laos. Minister Iwaya stated that he was pleased to meet in this milestone year of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Laos. He also expressed his gratitude for the invitation extended to Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko to visit Laos.
- Minister Thongsavanh expressed his appreciation for Japan’s continuous support for the socio-economic development of Laos, and both Foreign Ministers confirmed that they would further strengthen cooperation on bilateral relations and regional and international issues, and further enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Japan and Laos.
