On May 23, Mr. SHIMADA Tomoaki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the opening ceremony of “Lao Festival 2026” held at Yoyogi Park.

  1. The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko, and was attended by H.E. Mr. Thongsavan Phomvihane, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, who was visiting Japan, as well as many individuals involved in promoting exchanges between Japan and Laos.
  2. In his address, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Shimada noted that under the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” the Japan-Laos relationship has become closer in various fields, including political and security areas, economy, and cultural exchanges. He also expressed his hope that this festival would further deepen mutual understanding between the people of the two nations.
  3. Lao Festival 2026 was held until May 24 with many visitors. The festival featured performances of songs and traditional dances from both countries, and booths displaying Lao specialty products and cuisine, providing a valuable opportunity for attendees to deepen their understanding of Laos.
