Exchanging Opinions between Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA and Ambassador Amphay of Laos to Japan

On December 15, Mr. SHIMADA Tomoaki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by H.E. Mr. Amphay Kindavong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA extended his congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic this month. He further stated that, in this year marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Laos, the bilateral relations were elevated to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” and expressed his intention to continue strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
  2. In response, Ambassador Amphay expressed his appreciation for Japan’s support to Laos to date, and stated his willingness to continue working together to expand bilateral relations in various fields.
  3. Both sides, referring to the visit of Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko to Laos in November, shared the view that the bonds between the two countries had been further strengthened, and concurred on continuing cooperation toward further deepening bilateral relations.
