Japan-Cambodia Relations

On December 12, Mr. FUNAKOSHI Takehiro, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held the 2nd Japan-Cambodia Foreign Senior Officials’ Talks with H.E. Mr. Ung Rachana, Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

  1. During this meeting, both sides discussed a wide range of bilateral relations such as security and defense cooperation, New Cooperation Approach, economic relations and democratic development, in order to strengthen the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” between Japan and Cambodia.
  2. Both sides also exchanged views on the cooperation, including mine actions and peacekeeping as well as peace building, and various regional and international affairs such as the Myanmar situation, and confirmed their commitment to further strengthen the cooperation in regional and international arena.
    On the same day, Mr. FUNAKOSHI paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Both sides confirmed their commitment to strengthen the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” and the cooperation in regional and international situations, based on the recent progress of the cooperation between the two countries.
