Japan-Cambodia Relations
Attendance of Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs SHIMADA Tomoaki, at the Opening Ceremony of the “10th Cambodia Festival 2026”
On May 3rd (Sunday) and 4th (Monday), the "10th Cambodia Festival 2026," organized by the Cambodia Festival Executive Committee and co-hosted by the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Japan and other entities, was held at the Yoyogi Park Event Plaza, and Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs SHIMADA Tomoaki attended the opening ceremony on the 3rd as a representative of the Japanese government.
At the opening ceremony, Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA, H.E. Mr. CHUM Sounry, Ambassador-Designate of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Japan, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, Secretary-General of Japan-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship League, delivered remarks.
In his remarks, Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA stated that Japan and Cambodia have built close friendly and fruitful cooperative relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1953, and have cooperated in various fields for achieving Cambodia's peace, reconstruction, and development. He noted that in recent years, cooperation between the two countries has expanded from political and economic fields to the fields such as digital technology and peace and stability in the international community, under the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership." Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA also stated that relations between the two countries are supported by people-to-people exchanges, and expressed his hope that this event would further deepen the bonds between the peoples of both countries and the Japan-Cambodia relationship, who are trusted partners.
The main stage of the festival featured traditional Cambodian dances and live music performances, while the venue was adorned with booths displaying and selling Cambodian goods, traditional crafts, and cuisine, attracting many visitors and creating a lively atmosphere.
