Japan-Czech Republic Summit Meeting

On Sunday, June 16, between 4:50 P.M. and 5:10 P.M., Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who is visiting the Republic of Poland, met with H.E. Mr. Petr Nečas, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
Bilateral Relations
(1) The two leaders stated each that they wanted to further strengthen bilateral relations given that their countries shared fundamental values.
(2) Prime Minister Abe expressed condolences for the widespread flooding that occurred in the Czech Republic at the beginning of June. Prime Minister Nečas expressed gratitude for the warm words of Prime Minister Abe.
Economic Relations
(1) The two leaders confirmed that they would continue cooperation toward the strengthening of bilateral economic relations. In addition, they confirmed that Japan and the Czech Republic would continue cooperation in fields related to the creation of high added value, such as the research and development. From this perspective, they welcomed the opening of Japan-Czech Intergovernmental Consultation on Cooperation in Science and Technology in July.
(2) In particular, in the field of energy, the two shared the view that they recognized the great latent potential for cooperation between their countries. Prime Minister Nečas stated that he supported the Japan-European Union (EU) Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
