On June 2, for about 15 minutes from 1:45 pm, Mr. Masaji Matsuyama, Japanese Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Angel Mokara Moleila, Secretary of State for Consular Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, in Yokohama, Japan. The following is the gist of the meeting. Secretary Moleila is visiting Japan to participate in the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development held from June 1 to June 3.

  1. At the beginning of the meeting, Senior Vice-Minister Matsuyama welcomed Secretary Moleila’s visit to Japan and expressed his hope for development both in Africa and Japan on the occasion of TICAD V, which marks the 20th anniversary of the TICAD process. While touching upon the Equatorial Guinea’s high economic growth, Senior Vice-Minister Matsuyama said that Japan expected Equatorial Guinea to maintain the current level of growth and to implement measures for poverty reduction. Senior Vice-Minister Matsuyama stated that Japan would provide assistance to Equatorial Guinea on human resource development in the areas including governance.
  2. In response, Secretary Mokara Moleila expressed his hope for strengthening bilateral relations with Japan, which include Japan’s assistance to the initiatives of the government of Equatorial Guinea for promote sustainable economic growth through measures such as diversification of the country’s economy.
  3. The two officials also exchanged views on the cooperation in the international area including the reform of the United Nations Security Council.
