On May 14, prior to TICAD V, Mrs. Akie Abe met with seven representatives of the TICAD V Student Program.

Mrs. Abe listened to and empathized with the students’ talks, and praised their enthusiastic activities with their keen interest in Africa. She also mentioned her own experience of having visited the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Madagascar and talked about the circle of friends she has built since then in Africa. She encouraged the representatives of the Student Program to keep working to further enhance mutual understanding between Japan and African countries.
