On May 11 and May 12, “African Festa 2013” was held at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse to commemorate TICAD V. This event was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (jointly hosted by the City of Yokohama, with the support of African embassies in Japan and Kanagawa Prefecture). Mrs. Akie Abe delivered a welcome speech and announced the opening of the Festa.

In her speech, Mrs. Abe hoped that many people would feel and experience the culture and attractions of Africa and expressed her expectations for deepening the understanding and exchanges between Japan and Africa during TICAD V.
