Efforts for Peace in the Middle East

Japan has sent its Self-Defense Forces personnel to the Golan Heights as part of the U.N. Peace-Keeping Operation (there) from February,1996 and has chaired the Environmental Working Group of the Multitrack of the Middle East Peace Process since May,1992.

Efforts Regarding the North Korean Nuclear Arms Development Issue

Together with the U.S. and South Korea, Japan plays a significant role in the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO), established in March,1995, to deal with the issue of North Korea's nuclear development.

Efforts for Peace in Cambodia

Japan played a leading role in the international efforts for reconstruction and democratization of Cambodia. More than 700 SelfDefense Forces personnel were engaged in this international efforts from September, 1992 to September, 1993.
