Upon the discussion among the Government of Japan, the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) and the National Olympic Committee of Iraq (NOCI) on the promotion of sports activities in the Republic of Iraq and on Iraq's participation in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, it was agreed on April 14, in the presence of President Tsunekazu Takeda of the JOC and President Ahmed Al-Samarrai of the NOCI, to provide the following assistance.

  1. Provision of equipment for sports events at international athletic matches in which Iraq is putting in exclusive effort to participate (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, JOC)

    Provision of equipment for weightlifting, boxing, and track and field (hurdles and javelins) and their transportation (The cost incurred from provision and transportation of equipment will be provided through the scheme of the Cultural Grant Aid of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.)

  2. Receiving selected athletes to Japan for intensive training (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, JOC)

    Receiving a total of 15 promising athletes and coaches in the area of wrestling, boxing, judo, and track and field

    (They will visit Japan from the middle of June to the beginning of July and are scheduled to stay for approximately 60 days.)

  3. Provision of uniforms to athletes participating in the Athens Olympic Games (JOC)

    Official uniforms to be worn by athletes at the opening procession and other occasions.
