Message from Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to
President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation and from
Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi to
Minister for Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov of the Russian Federation concerning
the Terrorist Bombing in the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation

May 10, 2004

1. On May 10, 2004, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi sent a message with the following content to President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, concerning the terrorist bombing that occurred in Grozny, the capital of the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation on May 9, 2004.

  • Prime Minister Koizumi expressed his condolences for the sacrifice of the lives of President Akhmat Kadyrov of the Chechen Republic and other people.
  • The fight against terrorism is one that the international community must undertake together, and Japan will continue to combine efforts with the Russian Federation.

2. On May 10, 2004, Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi sent a message with the following content to Minister for Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov of the Russian Federation, concerning the terrorist bombing that occurred in Grozny, the capital of the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation.

  • Foreign Minister Kawaguchi expressed her condolences for the sacrifice of the lives of President Akhmat Kadyrov of the Chechen Republic and other people in the terrorist bombing that occurred on May 9, 2004. She offered her wishes for the speedy recovery of those who had been injured.
  • Foreign Minister Kawaguchi indicated her strong outrage that such an contemptible act of terrorism had occurred targeting President Kadyrov, a person who had made strong efforts towards the stability of the Chechen Republic. Acts of terrorism can in no way be tolerated, nor can they be justified under any circumstances.
  • The fight against terrorism is one that the international community must undertake together and Foreign Minister Kawaguchi indicated that she would continue to combine efforts, through close exchange of opinions with Foreign Minister Lavrov.
