Basic Data

Diplomatic Relations:

Japan and Poland established diplomatic relations on March 22, 1919 which were severed after the outbreak of WW II. On February 8, 1957, the diplomatic relations between Japan and Poland were restored. Since democratization of Poland in 1989, bilateral relations between Japan and Poland have been dynamically developing in a variety of fields, including political, economic, science, technology and cultural areas.

The year 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Poland.

Responding to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, on April 2022, Foreign Minister Hayashi, during his visit to Poland as a Special Envoy of Prime Minister, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Morawiecki and President Duda respectfully and held a meeting with Foreign Minister Rau. Both ministers agreed to continue to work closely together as strategic partners to protect a free and open international order.
