North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)

H.E. Mr. Mark RUTTE, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), will pay a visit to Japan from April 8 to April 10, 2025.

  1. During his stay in Japan, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, will hold a meeting with the Secretary General, and exchange views on the response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and cooperation in maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law with the recognition that the security of Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific is inseparable.
  2. This visit is expected to contribute to further enhancing the relationship between Japan and NATO.

This will be Mr. RUTTE’s first visit to Japan as the Secretary General of NATO. In his previous position as the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, he visited Japan twice in November 2015 for Official Visit and in June 2019 to attend the G20 Osaka Summit.
