Grassroots Human Security Grant Aid to the Kyrgyz Republic

  1. The Government of Japan decided to provide a maximum of 250,505 dollars in grassroots human security grant aid to the Kyrgyz Republic with the aim of contributing to the implementation of five projects. On August 30, 2004 (Monday), Ambassador Toshio Tsunozaki of Japan to the Kyrgyz Republic signed a grant contract with each of the representatives of various implementing organizations in the presence of Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi, who was visiting the Kyrgyz Republic, and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Askar A. Akaev at the President's Office.
  2. Overview of projects

    (1) Name of the Project: The project for the Secondary School Renovation in the Kochkor Region of Naryn Province
    Name of the Recipient: Arabaev Secondary School in Kochkor Village
    Total Amount of the Grant: Up to $25,617
    Content of grant: Repairing school buildings and providing school equipment (desks, chairs and others)

    (2) Name of the Project: The project for the Distribution of Textbooks for the Secondary Education in the poor southern regions in the Kyrgyz Republic
    Name of the Recipient: International Foundation for Election System -the Kyrgyz Republic
    Total Amount of the Grant: Up to $79,593
    Content of grant: Assisting the distribution of social studies textbooks to schools in four southern provinces

    (3) Name of the Project: The project for the Assistance of Braille Textbook Production and Computer Supply to the School for Blind and Weak-Sighted Children in Bishkek City
    Name of the Recipient: The Republican School for Blind and Weak-Sighted Children
    Total Amount of the Grant: Up to $44,940
    Content of grant: Assisting the production of textbooks in Braille for a school for the blind

    (4) Name of the Project: The project for the Provision of Medical Equipment to the Family Medicine Center of the Ak-suu Region of Issyk-kul Province
    Name of the Recipient: The Family Medicine Center of the Ak-Suu Region
    Total Amount of the Grant: Up to $44,895
    Content of grant: Providing medical equipment (ultrasound diagnostic equipment and others) to a medical center

    (5) Name of the Project: The project for Rehabilitation of the Facility and Renewal of Equipment for the Women's Nursing Home in the Jaiyl Region of Chui Province
    Name of the Recipient: Jaiyl Women's Psycho-neurological Nursing Home
    Total Amount of the Grant: Up to $55,460
    Content of grant: Repairing the facility and providing equipment (cooking utensils, laundry equipment and others) to a nursing home

  3. Grassroots human security grant aid provides funds for relatively small-scale economic and social development projects that benefit the grassroots level in developing countries. It is implemented on-site by the local governments of developing countries, educational and medical organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other means with a view to responding to diverse aid needs of developing countries.
