"Japan-Danube Friendship Year 2009"

In 2009 Japan will celebrate the following commemorative years with Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania.

• Austria: the 140th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations
• Bulgaria: the 50th Anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations
• Hungary: the 140th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations the 50th Anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations
• Romania: the 50th Anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations

With a view to further strengthening the friendly relations with these four countries along the Danube, the government of Japan has designed the year 2009 as the "Japan-Danube Friendship Year 2009".

Japan, in close cooperation with the four countries, will organize various commemorative events throughout the year.
A calendar of concrete events will be announced on the websites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for the events in Japan and the respective Japanese Embassies for the events in one or some of the four countries.
