Diplomatic Relations:
Diplomatic relations between Japan and Bulgaria were established in 1939, with respective diplomatic missions opened in Sofia in 1939 and in Tokyo in 1942. The relations were once severed due to the impact of the Second World War but were resumed with the exchange of the official documents in September 1959 recognizing the restoration of the relations between the two countries.
