Message from Royal Thai Embassy

The first Thai Food Festival was held on September 30, and October 1 last year at Yoyogi Park, Event Square. Despite sudden rain, 70,000 people enjoyed the Festival. Over 30 booths of Thai restaurants, Thai traditional dance and cultural performance on stage were the main attractions.

Following the smashing success of the first Thai Food Festival 2000 and in response to the overwhelming requests of the Thai restaurant entrepreneurs and community, the Royal Thai Embassy is once again organizing a second Thai Food Festival. In order to introduce delicious Thai food and strengthen the cordial ties between Japan and Thailand, this year's festival will be much more attractive than last year.

More than 50 Thai food booths will await you and offer variety of authentic and popular Thai dishes with reasonable prices. Each restaurant will serve their specialties with fresh jasmine rice again as they did last year. Unlike Japanese rice, Thai rice is long and creates a unique yet good aroma when cooked and should be served with Thai curry and other Thai dishes. Thus Thai rice is for Thai food, as Japanese rice is for Japanese food. The well known Tom Yam Kung will of course be available. Studies by Japanese researchers confirm that ingredients for Tom Yam help prevent cancer.

In addition to Thai food, there will be more than 20 booths for handcrafts, Thai food products, international call service, tourist information and Thai massage demonstration. Also anybody can try Tom Yam Kung cooking class, as well as fruit and vegetable carving. On the stage, Thai classical dance and music will be performed all day long. Win quiz and get great prizes.

On May 12 and 13, you can visit Thailand without flying. Thai craze, Thai beginners, or anybody are welcome to explore the magical kingdom of Thailand in Tokyo. Touch it, feel it, and eat it! Don't miss this wonderful opportunity!
