Donation from the Independent State of Papua New Guinea

- In response to the Tohoku district – off the Pacific Ocean Earthquake, The Right Honourable Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare, Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, offered a donation of 10 million kina (approximately 320 million yen) as relief money in a letter of sympathy and condolences to Prime Minister Naoto Kan.
- A letter of sympathy and condolences was also sent to Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto from The Honourable Don Pomb Polye, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration. Financial assistance for the relief, recovery and rehabilitation efforts of the Government and people of Japan has also been announced in the letter.
- Japan deeply appreciates a sense of solidarity expressed and great assistance extended by the Government and the people of Papua New Guinea.
