Overview

Japan and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) have nurtured a cooperative and friendly relationship over the years. Japan is currently the third largest donor to the RMI after the United States and Australia, and there have been frequent visits by respective political leaders between the two countries. Ties at local and grass-root levels have also grown over the years: Majuro, the capital city of the RMI, has a sister city relationship with the town of Kawai in Nara prefecture of Japan.
