Japan-Malaysia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting
On August 1, commencing at 3:00 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with Dato' Saifuddin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia during his visit to Thailand to attend the ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers’ Meetings. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
  1. Minister Kono stated that he would like to develop the relations between the two countries based on the Look East Policy. In response, Foreign Minister Saifuddin stated that he would like to continue cooperation for further development of relations between the two countries, including the preparations for the visit to Japan by Prime Minister Mahathir.  
  2. The two ministers exchanged views on the regional issues including the North Korea such as abductions issue, and the South China Sea, and agreed to continue to work closely together.
