2. Overall Evaluation
(1) On this visit by Foreign Minister Kawaguchi to China in the year of the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Japan-China relations, it was recognized that the development of bilateral relations over a thirty-year period has not only contributed to the peace and stability of both Japan and China, but also Asia and the world, and that such relations should be developed in a long-term and stable manner.
(2) Foreign Minister Kawaguchi explained the significance of Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's visit to North Korea, and the visit was welcomed by and received the support of President Jiang and others from the Chinese side.
3. Main Results
(1) The expansion and deepening of the human network between Japan and China (joint efforts towards the successful visit of 10,000 Japanese to China; agreement on the holding of policy planning consultations, and Japan-China Economic Partnership Consultations (within the year))
(2) Youth exchange (continuation of the Japan Youth Invitation Program by China)
(3) Japan-China environmental cooperation (joint efforts towards the successful holding of Japan-China Environmental Cooperation Week in October)
(4) Maritime cooperation (confirmation of continued cooperation in the salvage operation of the unidentified vessel; agreement concerning respect for a framework for mutual prior notification on marine research)
(5) A framework for Japan-China consular cooperation (welcome for the implementation of the first round of consultations; and expectations for further results)
(6) Visit of Prime Minister Koizumi to North Korea (welcomed and supported by the Chinese side)
