On April 29, commencing at 6:15 p.m. (local time)(April 30, 3:15 a.m. JST) for approximately 90 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and his spouse who are visiting the Republic of Senegal, held a meeting with Japanese Nationals and Representatives of Japanese Companies in Senegal. The overview is as follows.

  1. Minister Iwaya stated that the purpose of his visit was to strengthen economic relations with Senegal, which is politically stable and has high potential as a base to French-speaking West Africa. Additionally, Minister Iwaya mentioned that he had conveyed to Senegalese government the importance of improving the business environment, and stated that Japan will continue to listen to the voices of Japanese nationals and Japanese companies in Senegal in order to enhance Japan's presence in the region.
  2. In response, participants shared their views on various topics, including the current state and outlook of business in Senegal, activities of local industries and third country companies, and comparisons with the business environments of neighbouring countries. Active discussions were held on these topics.
