Formation of a New Government in Iraq

- On May 14, the Iraqi Council of Representatives approved the cabinet ministers’ list submitted by Prime Minister-designate Mr. Ali Al-Zaidi and the new cabinet, headed by Mr. Al-Zaidi as Prime Minister, was formed.
- The Government of Japan welcomes the formation of the new government in Iraq following the election of the Iraqi Council of Representatives last November. The Government of Japan strongly hopes that all Iraqi parties will work together under the new Government to realize further stability and development in Iraq. Under the current situation in the Middle East, Japan also expects Iraq to contribute to restoring stability in the region.
- The Government of Japan will cooperate with the Al-Zaidi government towards the stabilization of the Middle East and further enhancing bilateral relations between Japan and Iraq.
