  1. Japan is paying close attention to the situation where the recent rise in tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea could lead to further instability in the neighboring region, and strongly calls upon both countries to respect each other’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and to exercise the utmost restraint to de-escalate tensions.
  2. Japan strongly urges both Ethiopia and Eritrea to resolve any tensions and conflicts peacefully and diplomatically through dialogue, in line with the spirit of the historic 2018 peace framework between the two countries.
