Detention of a Japanese National in Russia (Conduct of a Consular Meeting)

  1. On October 26, officials from the Embassy of Japan in Russia conducted a consular meeting with the Japanese national who was detained in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and subsequently transferred to Moscow on October 13, (local time).
  2. It has been confirmed that the individual has no health issues.
  3. The Government of Japan strongly urges the Government of the Russian Federation to release the Japanese national immediately and to extend humanitarian consideration as well as fair and impartial treatment, and will make every effort for the protection of Japanese nationals.
