Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting

On October 10, commencing at 9:45 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with The Honorable Marco Rubio, Secretary of State of the United States of America.

  1. With regard to the robbery-murder incident that occurred in Okinawa Prefecture, Minister Motegi reiterated the Japanese government’s position, including expressing regret over this incident, and the two foreign ministers confirmed that Japan and the United States would hold consultations to take effective measures to prevent the occurrence of such incidents.
  2. In addition, regarding the International Criminal Court (ICC), Minister Motegi conveyed the Japanese government’s position on the recent U.S. institutional sanctions, and the two ministers agreed to maintain close communication.
  3. The two foreign ministers concurred that they would continue to work together to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance amid the severe security environment and to advance Japan-U.S. cooperation across a wide range of areas.
