State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII’s Attendance at the Welcome Reception for the 66th Convention of Nikkei and Japanese Abroad

On October 7, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the welcome Reception for the 66th Convention of Nikkei and Japanese Abroad, held in the presence of Their Imperial Highnesses Crown Prince and Crown Princess Akishino, and delivered a welcome address. Approximately 200 Japanese immigrants and their descendants (Nikkei) from approximately 20 countries participated in the Convention.

  1. In his address, State Minister HORII mentioned that Nikkei, as pioneers of overseas migration, have overcome numerous hardships throughout a long history in turbulent times and have earned the trust and respect of their local communities. He also stated that he was deeply impressed that Nikkei, through extraordinary hardships and efforts in their local societies, are playing active roles in a wide range of fields, and expressed his respect for them.
  2. Following his address, State Minister HORII deepened exchanges through conversations with Nikkei.
