Protest by Foreign Minister MOTEGI to U.S. Ambassador George Glass

On October 4, Foreign Minister MOTEGI summoned Mr. George Glass, Ambassador of the United States, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and issued a protest following the arrest of a U.S. marine member on a suspicion of robbery-murder that occurred in Naha city on October 3.

  1. Foreign Minister MOTEGI lodged a strong protest expressing that the occurrence of such an extremely brutal and heinous incident is extremely regrettable. Foreign Minister MOTEGI urged the U.S. side’s full cooperation with the ongoing investigation. He also strongly urged the U.S. side to strengthen discipline and to prevent the recurrence of incidents so that such a tragedy will never be repeated.
  2. Ambassador Glass reiterated deep regret over the loss of life and reaffirmed that the U.S. side will cooperate fully with Japanese authorities in their investigations, and the U.S. side is committed to doing everything they can to prevent such incidents.
