The 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency

The 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will be held from September 14 to 18 in Vienna, Austria.

  1. Ms. ONODA Kimi, Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, and Mr. KAIFU Atsushi, Permanent Representative and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the International Organizations in Vienna, will attend the General Conference as representatives of the Government of Japan.
  2. During the General Conference, Minister ONODA will make a statement on the importance of nuclear non-proliferation, Japan's efforts to address international challenges through the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and support IAEA’s initiatives.
  3. Taking this opportunity, the representatives of the Government of Japan will hold meetings with relevant countries and organizations and exchange views on challenges and enhancement of cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

The IAEA is an international organization (181 Member States – as of December 2025) which was established in 1957 for the purpose of promoting peaceful uses of nuclear energy and application of safeguards to prevent the diversion of nuclear energy for military use.
